VENLA, our Muse, represents the strength of the Finnish female character. She is the spirited girl next door wooed by the brothers in “The Seven Brothers” classic. This was the first ever novel written in the Finnish language in 1860's by the great Aleksis Kivi, national author of Finland.

VENLA is a place where you can give a new life to your clothes and find new loves. VENLA has a modern Nordic look with a fresh Bohemian twist. The VENLA team is passionate about providing a sustainable way to shop for great secondhand designer clothes and accessories. Two roaming Finns

We’re Minna and Satu, originally from Finland but living and working in Australia for over 25 years. Our company had been providing services in the travel industry and was going great until COVID hit. Like many others, our income just dried up. So, with Finnish sisu (dogged determination), we decided to start a new business and do good for our community and the environment. This is when VENLA resell + relove was born.

We love Australia, the beaches, the weather, the food and most importantly the people. But there are always thing we miss about Finland and the Nordic culture. One of the things we realised Australia lacked was places to sell our good quality preloved clothing.

The flea market concept and the rent-a-rack system have existed in Finland for many years. There are hundreds of secondhand boutiques and flea markets in Helsinki and around the country. It’s a common practice for people to go through their wardrobes once or twice a year and resell pieces they no longer need.

We opened the first VENLA store in Mosman in January 2021, at the height of the pandemic. The new concept was quickly and warmly welcomed in the Mosman and the surrounding communities, as it provided a creative new way for people to sell their great quality fashion and to shop sustainably.

‍VENLA Bondi opened in October 2021 and VENLA Balmain in July 2022. In September 2023 we opened VENLA Cronulla and Manly.

As we always say, our business is not in fashion, but sustainability and recycling.

But how?

By reducing our reliance on fast fashion and providing an alternative to buy-and-replace fashion cycles. Clothing manufacture has doubled since 2000. Twice as many garments were bought in 2015 than in 2000, a number which has risen exponentially since then. This is due to the average wear time reducing by half. In short, fast fashion is polluting more than food waste.

People are buying disposable clothes, only there is no textile recycling in Australia and very little elsewhere in the world. Our Nordic traditions of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle pushed Finland and Scandinavian countries towards recycled clothing two decades ago. Our Mission is to make the fashion industry more sustainable by offering a place where conscious consumers can easily resell items they no longer wear, giving them a new life with someone else.
